As announced in a press release launched earlier today, LocationsHub's Production-Ready 3D Gallery (PR3D) is now online featuring 3D models of selected locations available for filming. Using Matterport's latest 3D technology, PR3D models are 2D photo overlays blended with a 3D mesh creating an interactive, immersive 3D model for viewers.

Our PR3D models allow film professionals to view a location in a top-down view, virtually move around the space in fluid motion, and thoroughly explore each location. They can take measurements of doorways, windows, and rooms, calculate ceiling heights, etc. They can even annotate the model so that others on the production can read their notes and ideas about how the location could be used. Additionally, they can plan dolly moves, camera angles, and the blocking of actors - all from their computer screens without having to travel to the actual location.

"We are delighted that LocationsHub chose Matterport's 3D media platform to develop their 3D Gallery which gives an outstanding immersive experience for pre-production scouting as if you were really there," said Bill Brown, Matterport CEO.

For property owners, Production-Ready 3D technology helps bring their locations to life. With a PR3D model, viewers can experience a location almost as if they're there in person. It’s one of the best ways to market a location to the film industry. PR3D locations get quick, positive response from location scouts, filmmakers, and producers.

A PR3D model adds value throughout the entire production process. Certainly with pre-production scouting and tech scouting, but also for the art, lighting, construction departments ....
— Ed Henegar, President of Reel-Scout

For film industry professionals, Production-Ready 3D models let viewers visit and view the space from almost every angle possible, from the comfort of their own office or home. Until now, filmmakers have typically relied on location photos to decide whether a location was suitable for the production. If a location looks good in photos, the filmmakers (or location scouts) would then visit the location in person to make their final decision. With PR3D locations, the PR3D models are online and can be viewed on any computer, mobile phone, or tablet. It's even possible to plan basic filming logistics such as camera angles, dolly moves, lighting placement, set design, and blocking of actors just by viewing the PR3D models virtually. Being able to effectively scout for film locations online saves the production time and money.

“A PR3D model adds value throughout the entire production process,” said Ed Henegar, President of Reel-Scout. “Certainly with pre-production scouting and tech scouting, but also for the art, lighting, construction departments - even to post-production where a 3D model could preserve, for future reference and use, a set that would likely be destroyed once the production was complete.”
