Villa Totano is a converted 11th Century monastery in the beautiful Italian countryside.  Situated high atop the medieval town of Amelia in Umbria, the views surrounding Villa Totano is breathtaking. Think Enchanted April, A Good Year, and Under The Tuscan Sun, to name a few movies that were shot in locations with similar landscapes.

The interior of the villa is just as stunning. Cool, comfortable and in keeping with its history, Villa Totano is a much-loved family home featuring heavy beams and stone flagged floors. The furniture is traditional Italian, accompanied by period oil paintings, an eclectic collection of books and antiques, artifacts and exquisite carved stonework. It's no wonder Villa Totano have been showcased in many magazines.

The drive to the villa through the estate takes visitors through a great avenue of trees leading to immaculate multi-leveled gardens. Some walled, some edged with high lavender hedges and stone archways embraced by climbing roses, the gardens add much to the villa's mystique and charms.

There are various outdoor terraces for al fresco meals, including one overlooking a swimming pool which, because of the sheer drop beyond it, is well and heavily-ballustraded. There is also a pool house with fridge, table, chairs, shower room, WC and changing room.

The perpendicular drop from the far side of the house is even more dramatic and affords unbelievably beautiful views over a wooded valley and a river beyond.

Located in the town of Amelia, the oldest town in Umbria, Villa Totano's surrounding area is dotted with numerous quaint hilltop villages. Rome is only 1.5 hour away and Florence is a 2.5 hour drive.

And have we mentioned there are five horses on the estate, all available for riding?
