When a location is uploaded, it is immediately available for searching. Similarly, any edits you make to you property or location are immediately seen by those searching.

Is it difficult to upload photos?

Thumbnails, squares, medium-sized versions are automatically created for the appropriate display. Photos can then be sorted and arranged using drag-and-drop functionality once they are uploaded.

Once I have uploaded pictures of my property, can I change anything?

How are search results displayed?

Search results are displayed in thumbnail layout, map layout, or list layout options. Select the display you prefer by clicking on the drop-down in the upper right navigation.

How does the "Enter Keyword" search work?

The keyword search functionality is available for those "vague" search requirements. It is a free-form field that searches across categories, sub-categories, styles, names, and looks for any exact mention of the word or phrase you have entered. To produce greater results, use single words, use the singular form of those words, and perform multiple searches. When entering multiple words in the keyword field, the order and combination of those words is important.

Consider these examples:
-- A search for house with pool will return all locations comprised of both a house and a pool. A search for house and pool will produce the same results as house with pool.
-- A search for cabin or lodge will return all locations that are either a cabin or a lodge. Similarly, a search for cabin, lodge (separated by a comma) will return all locations that are either a cabin or a lodge. A search for cabin lodge (with no comma) will return all locations that are either a cabin or a lodge.
-- A search for the exact phrase "garden with gazebo" (in quotation marks) will return only those locations that include those exact words in that exact order somewhere in the description of the location.
-- A search for historic will produce all types of historic locations while a search for "historic homes" (in quotation marks) will produce only historic homes.

For searches by specific state, city, category, sub-category, or style, please use the advanced search options. The advanced search functionality is based on standardized category and subcategories used by over 80 film commissions.

Can I list my house even though I live in it?

Yes. Many locations are occupied by owners. Locations can be vacant or occupied.

Do I need a photo of my property or props to list on this web site for film and television scouting?

Of course. Location scouts are seeking locations that fit the project. Location scouts are generally under time constraints and need to make the most of their time. If you do not have a photo of your property listed, then it is impossible to know if your location fits the bill. A minimun of one photo is required in order to provide location scouts and production personnel an idea of what you have available.

Do we have to pay a percentage to should my property be used as a result of my listing on the site?

We do not take any fees or percentages should your location be selected for a project. You will be working directly with the production personnel and negotiate your fees with them. We are simply a listing service displaying your property to those who are looking for locations.

Does the owner have to get the permits for shooting?

The production company is responsible for any permits associated with the filming or photography project. When you get an inquiry from a location scout asking to use your property, be sure to go over with them all the permits that may or may not be needed. If there are any permits required, be sure to get copies of them for your records.

Any property, even an individual room, is fine. If you have a unique room or rooms, or want to offer your entire home, list it! Location scouts for all types of production work are seeking of locations all kinds - regardless of whether only one or more than one scene would be shot in that location. Productions look for unique backdrops or backgrounds for their projects too. Sometimes the productions don't really know what they're looking for until they see it.

I have to pay taxes on the money I make, right?

Not necessarily. According to the IRS, if you rent out your property for fewer than 15 days, any income you make does not have to be reported. However, if filming takes place for more than 14 days, you would need to report your income.

Credits in the movie industry are negotiated for and don't come cheap. If credit is what you want, you will need quite a bit of leverage to get it. Credit is rarely, if ever, given for locations. And even if it was, the crews cleaning the theater after the film is over are probably the only ones who would see it.

Is my home or business a good location rental? Is my location appropriate for a film, television or photography project?

We get many users asking us if their home, business or unique location is of interest to location scouts. The answer is … you never know. The scouts for production are looking for a vast array of venues throughout the world. Homes of all shapes and sizes, business, vacant land, and even old warehouses and buildings. If you are in doubt as to if your location is of interest as an on-location rental consideration, may we suggest you watch television for a while or browse a few magazines and notice the locations used in the various shows, movies, television commercials or print ads. Much is shot on location. There are student films, indie films and feature films constantly seeking locations to match the script or the story-board for a photo-shoot. You never know what they will need. Some may be looking for a unique location and will seek out interesting places. We are unable to guarantee your listing will get inquiries' from production personnel as it depends what they need. However, a script calls for many different locations, and your property could be exactly what they are looking for.

Whenever I try to log in, the login page just reloads and does not display an error message. Why is that happening?

The most common cause of this is that your browser is not set to accept cookies (a cookie is a text-only string that gets entered into the memory of your browser). LocationsHub requires that cookies are turned on so the application can track your session and know who you are as you use LocationsHub.

Instructions for turning on cookies in most web browsers can be found at "How to Enable Cookies" or "How to control cookies." For more information on cookies, see this Wikipedia entry.

The other possibility is you have a firewall or security system set up that is too strict. Either one could prevent cookies from being accepted or Javascript from being run. LocationsHub needs both cookies and javascript in order to function properly.
