Have you ever thought about submitting your house to be in the next movie, TV show, or commercial? It’s a lot easier than you think!

With today’s advanced technology such as high def cameras and televisions, filming in a studio or on a soundstage is no longer as authentic or convincing to the sophisticated audience as it was a few years ago. More productions opt to film on location using real life homes, restaurants, shops, etc., as the settings for their movies.

If you’re interested in seeing your house starring in the next film or TV show, you may be surprised to hear that the process is just a few mouse clicks away. List your home with Reel-Scout’s national film location library and it will be available instantly for viewing by film professionals, location scouts and location managers everywhere. All from the comfort of your own computer!

Remember that beautiful house in Sandra Bullock’s romantic comedy The Proposal? Owned by the Kaneb family, the house is a real life early-20th-century cedar shingle house in Manchester-By-The-Sea, Massachusetts. With a few touches of Hollywood magic, the Kanebs’ home became Ryan Reynolds’ secluded family home in the small remote town of Sitka, Alaska.

Martinsville-Henry County Tourism and Film Division

One of our clients, the Martinsville-Henry County Tourism and Film Division recently made an announcement introducing a profitable way for homeowners to earn extra income from their homes:

Martinsville , VA (February 23, 2011) - So you think your home is a star? Property owners in Martinsville-Henry County may now showcase their businesses and homes as prospective locations for a movie, TV show or commercial, thanks to a new online resource announced today by the EDCs Tourism & Film Division. The Web-based portal allows residents to submit their homes, businesses, farms and other properties for possible use by film crews.

The Film Division, along with Reel-Scout, a national film location management company, launched the online feature on the EDCs Tourism & Film Division Website, www.VisitMartinsville.com. The system, called a location submission engine, lets residents showcase properties for use in movies, TV series and other productions.

Film making is a proven economic driver in Virginia. A recent study by the Virginia Commonwealth University Center for Public Policy found that more than 8,000 people in Virginia are involved in the film industry, which brought more than $500 million in economic impact to Virginia in 2004.

How Much Can Your Home Earn As a Film Location?

The option of uploading and marketing your house to the film industry is not limited to Martinsville-Henry County residents. Homeowners nationwide can now register their house and property with Reel-Scout. Within a few minutes, their homes will be available for viewing by all filmmakers, location scouts and location managers in the country, if not the world.

The investment is surprisingly affordable starting at $12.95/month for one property. There’s no binding contract and you can cancel your listing at any time. Once registered on the Reel-Scout film location database, your house if chosen as a film location can easily earn on the average from $1,000 to $2,000 a day during the preparation period, to $1,500 to $3,500 a day when the actual filming takes place (according to industry sources).

Don’t forget that your house doesn’t have to be a gorgeous mansion to be chosen as a film location. Filmmakers are always looking for a huge range of locations, from the everyday home to the jaw-dropping, one-of-a-kind property. They’re also on the lookout for the right diner, bookstore, hardware store, boutiques, country home, city apartments, to use as the backdrops for their productions.
