390 Gem Stone Lane, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411

High on a ridge in the lush West Virginia hills is an extraordinary residence nestled among oak, pine and dogwood trees. The home is designed with living oak trees inside its footprint.  A work of art that brings the outdoors inside, Virginia West is an architectural standout that is now also available as a film location for film and television productions.

Situated on 19 private wooded acres in historic Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, this one-of-a-kind residence is the work of renowned architect Travis Price. An homage to the natural environment, the home is designed almost entirely of glass, copper, and birch wood, and was built carefully framing four living oak trees. The result is striking. A grand twin oak sits center-stage on the central courtyard, beyond which beckons a lawn, landscaped garden, flagstone sun deck and dipping pool with a copper fountain. The courtyard serves as a breezeway between the main house and private west-facing guest quarters with ensuite bath.

Just inside the main house entryway grows the first interior oak, and beyond it two more trees grace the expansive open concept living area. The interior of the residence is a marvel of ingenuity. 270 degrees of enormous sliding glass doors open onto a natural backdrop that changes with the seasons. A rounded Danish high-efficiency wood burning stove draws the eye to an arching birch ceiling that exceeds 18 feet.

Beyond the living space is a covered east-facing patio that is a perfect sunrise vantage point. The interior finishes and furnishings are designed for modern comfort. The architecture of the home, completed in 2012, is as unique as the trees within it. The roof is constructed of copper with a green patina finish and arcs from the east porch down toward the central deck. The arc line of the roof ascends again above the guest house to the west. Surrounding the entire structure is eco-friendly composite wood decking, and additional exterior green patina copper accents are an artistic reflection of the trees above.

Virginia West is a contemporary oasis where nature is celebrated art. Lucky for filmmakers worldwide, this stunning and very unique residence is film-ready for your next project.
