Another fun summer movie comes to the big screen today nationwide. The much-anticipated comedy We’re The Millers, starring Jennifer AnistonJason Sudeikis,Emma Roberts and Will Poulter, was filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina, last summer.

The plot centers around a stripper (Aniston) and a pot dealer (Sudeikis)  who together portray a fake family to fool his supplier. Along the way,  they recruited two teenage neighbors to join in on the adventure posing as their kids.

Directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber (The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, Dodgeballs) and written by written by Bob Fisher and Steve Faber (Wedding Crashers), We’re The Millers was shot entirely in and around Wilmington.

 

Wilmington Film Locations

Wilmington stands in for downtown Denver in the movie. Some of the locations used for filming include the strip club on College Road, City Limits Saloon, the old Murchison Building, and thePort City Java (300 N. Front Street). The popular local coffee shop was transformed into the Burklyn Café and many interior and exterior scenes were filmed there.

Other Wilmington locations featured are Carolina Apartments (420 Market Street), Smith Alley,Pender’s Cafe (205 N. Front Street), River Road, and Brunswick Forest (where a carnival scene was shot).

It’s no wonder Wilmington is affectionately named “Hollywood of the East.” These past two years alone, many feature films and TV series have been filming here. Leading the list is The Conjuring, Iron Man 3, Under The Dome, and Revolution.

In addition to filming on location, We’re The Millers was also shot on the sound stages atEUE/Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington.

 

Filming in North Carolina
