Following the success of the TNT movie trilogy The Librarian, the network now gets ready to launch a new drama series The Librarians as a follow-up to its popular trilogy. The new series will be produced by Electric Entertainment, the same folks that previously made The Librarian trilogy. TNT will film the new series on location in Oregon, where other television shows such as Grimm, Portlandia and Leverage have been filming during the past few years.

Leading The Librarians cast is Rebecca Romijn who will take on the role of Eve Baird, a brilliant and skilled counter-terrorism agent responsible for protecting the "Librarians," an ancient organization of librarians hidden beneath the Metropolitan Public Library. The Librarians will no doubt remind us of the Indiana Jones films we've loved and grown up with.

“The Librarian movies have been a huge success for TNT and we jumped at the opportunity to build a series around the incredible world Dean Devlin and his creative partners created,” said Michael Wright, President and Head of Programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM).

With a 20% film incentive in cash rebate and an additional cash payment of up to 16.2% of wages paid to production personnel, Oregon has been a popular filming location for television shows and movies of late. Television series such as Grimm, Portlandia and Leverage have been filming in Oregon, as well as featured films Twilight, He’s Not That Into You, Into The Wild, Gone, and Mr. Brooks, to name a few.

The Librarian trilogy began in 2004 with Quest for the Spear (filmed in Mexico) and continued in 2006 with Return to King Solomon’s Mines (filmed in South Africa and Kenya) and Curse of the Judas Chalice in 2008 (filmed in Louisiana). With all three movies scoring high cable ratings, the network is confident in its decision to begin the first of the 10-episode drama series in Oregon.

The series is the latest addition to TNT’s action-adventure genre which includes Falling Skies and will probably air on Sunday nights, the popcorn entertainment slot.

Romijn leads a cast that includes Noah Wyle (reprising his role in a recurring capacity since he’s also on another TNT series, Falling Skies), Christian Kane (TNT’s Leverage), Lindy Booth (Copper), John Kim (Neighbors), and John Larroquette. Joining Wyle from the movies are Bob Newhart and Jane Curtin, who also will reprise their roles, with Matt Frewer (TNT’s Falling Skies) also set to recur.
